a warm welcome….

TDF E14 PIG

you guys are here because you heard that Jo and i are starting a weekly podcast right?

i am here to tell you: the rumors are totally true!

a big part of this is community involvement – we want your voices, your input, your participation, the more the merrier! please add skype draxfiles, avatar draxfiles & radio@draxfiles.com to your list of contacts so you can phone in, IM us, send mail etc. with suggestions and critique.

heck, we may even play this stuff on air! we are very excited to bring our passion for virtual reality and the creative people who make it all happen everyday – the creatives, the explorers, the techies and everyone in between – to the airwaves.

expect engaging discussion but most definitely count out a scream/swear-fest or salivating fanboy meet-up!

and now it is your turn: please comment below – what should we cover starting with inaugural broadcast january 10th [mark that date!]? what should we avoid? what do you love/hate/are indifferent to when it comes to SL, VR or the metaverse?

the first 10 commenters will get a mention in our underwriting section ” the show is supported by…” which will be at the end of each broadcast an opportunity to advertise your wares/services.

allright – we are listening!

cheers,

dd

This show is not supported by SaveMe Oh because I hoped to get rid of radio by moving to a virtual world.

    1. draxfiles says:

SaveMe now you made us add a “supported by SaveMe…” mention…..

  3. Inara Pey says:

So looking forward to the show!

As far as topics are concerned, you already know my areas of interest :). Let’s just see a balanced and informed discussion on whatever subjects come up as the weeks go by, whether their about the social aspects of SL, the development of the platform, concerns over the future or anything else.

Maybe a place to start would be the platform itself, what has happened over the last year (there’s actually been a lot of under-the-hood work, etc)., what is about to arrive (like Oculus Rift in a new (project?) viewer), and what all this may mean for the platform and user retention, and how the Lab might start capitalising on the developments and enhancements (performance improvements, etc.), in terms of attracting and retaining users and effective marketing (you are on air for six hours, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰ ).

    1. draxfiles says:

world vs platform ey? you should be on with us!!!

  4. Show Topic: earlier pioneers that paved the way for Second Life. Starting in the mid 1990’s there were a number of small companies experimenting with 2D and 3D online interactive graphical interfaces for social interaction…some included live voice..one brought in the ability for end users to experiment with 3D modeling. My own path to Second Life was along this route. I was a beta tester for several of these companies before becoming a beta tester for Second Life much later in 2002. Off the top of my head — TRAVELER ONLIVE!, WORLD’S CHAT GOLD and THE PALACE were all 2D interfaces with 2D avatars that could teleport to different areas and used live voice. The then unknown little startup called Black Sun ran another one that I can’t remember the name of but I talked to lots of Canadians through this one and there were the beginnings of crude 3D — the avatars where cubes and pyramid primitives. Then the big breakthrough came with ALPHA WORLD (later named ACTIVE WORLDS) where you had a true 3D world, with land you could claim and a limited toolbox of ready made 3D object parts to build with…all you needed was a “seed” piece in order to clone any piece you wanted simply by typing its name. No voice on this one — only text chat — but clever individuals made voice mods that you could run simultaneously with the viewer, much like folks did in the early days of SL.

  5. Btw…if I get into the end credits you can advertise my shop inworld and store on the Market Place…also the theater company I’m involved with. รœ

if you want you can record a station ID for us ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. Good luck on the show Drax and Jo. As for the topic, why not start with the basics? You asked for “community involvement”. So what is a community in SL? Is SL just one community or is it many? How do you define the boundaries of a community where geography, social status, ethnicity, and religion are largely irrelevant? I did some interviews during SL10B asking these questions and the answers were quite varied.

    1. draxfiles says:

      great great idea!!!!

  16. Good luck Drax & Jo, I’m looking forward to it.
As to topics, the main thing is not to become obsessed with any one area, an interesting mix of Tech, SL politics, Art, SL business, Fashion, etc. is the best bet.

    1. Hitomi Tiponi says:

What Shug said – SL is so much more than any one thing. I think it is the way you can always find new aspects that keeps it so fresh for many of us.

      1. draxfiles says:

Shug’s suggestion is exactly what kept us passionate and not turn us into whiners I believe ๐Ÿ™‚

    2. draxfiles says:

      thx so much!!!!

  17. ragmedia says:

will your podcast be in German?

    1. draxfiles says:

      it will be in Suaheli!

      1. Joe Nickence says:

Pfft, LOL! That’s what I tell everyone I talk to that I speak when they don’t hear me the first time. ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. Shmoo Snook says:

Can you tell me how I can add this to my podcast client? I don’t see an RSS thingy or anything like that hereabouts. Thanks!

    1. draxfiles says:

Shmoo neither do i …. YET ๐Ÿ™‚ working on it and shall be communicated!!! thxxxxxx you!!

      1. Shmoo Snook says:

Works perfectly! (By the way, even if you can’t stand the sound of your own voice, for the rest of us, hearing it is a pleasure.)

  19. Joe Nickence says:

    Looking forward to listening. ๐Ÿ™‚

  20. Mireille says:

Sigh…I’m late in sending my congratulations on the beginning of this exciting adventure, but the enthusiasm is still burning as bright! Fantastic idea, this! Merci bien!
