a panel of 4 published authors that are also active second life residents: jessika jenvieve, lori alden holuta, first time novelist ana valladares rubi also known as ruby geek in our circles and of course r. jacques aka gospeedraser. that is what is on the menu today: a talk about world building, marketing, craft, inspiration, specific to a subset of writers who are native to our wonderful universe. if you are stumbling across this program from the “outside” and wonder “why is one of the authors a black female but sounds like a white male?” we collectively shall answer: “because our avatar is us!”
enjoy the show!
and now for more context please read on [after or if you insist before you purchases a physical or digital book from our guests!]
- the original live stream
- a spirited post-stream discussion [those second lifers … they will never leave ….]
- we talk about it on the show: kath mcgill‘s incredible picture books made in sl [as featured in my doc “our digital selves”]
- so much cool stuff is happening in second life [besides the goings on at book club island of course!], especially in new babbage which is one of the best sims out there. what i did not know: a physical magazine is published in conjunction with the steampunk roleplay and monthly writer circles over there?

- what i learned on the show: quality of lulu not that great, smashwords is the go to place, self-publishing is a pain but sitting around and waiting for call-backs from publishers is way more pain …. so? indie it is!!!

- we know that amazon’s labor and business practices are problematic to say the least. one thing we can do: participate and support collective labor action [and it is happening this week!]
- i was on the national arts educators convention with alice wexler and mary stockrocki = great conversation about ability diverse communities in sl but alas behind the walled garden of internal zoom meeting …

- next wednesday on the book club: a story about skin color, forbidden love and discrimination based on ethnicity and class within the british empire [no it is NOT about harry, meghan or oprah …]
