Check out this week’s Drax Files’ Radio Hour!
I really look forward to hearing what you can find out about the recent Lindex fluctuations. A 6% may not seem like much, but $60 for every $1000 does add up, and the recent credit processing fee increase also cuts into the margins.
As far as I know, the Lab has not commented on this publicly yet — it’d be very interesting to hear what, if anything, they have to say.
We always wish LL would comment on these things…we will try our best but we will have a pretty cool guest next time 🙂
So I find it impossible that this was any resident business, the volume was just too large. Somebody needed money and he needed it really fast. About 1 Mio USD was cashed out from SL during the last few days and, with the higher than normal exchange rate, that somebody lost tens of thousants of USD. This was not old money, this was freshly minted Lindens.
Here is the only explaination: It was Linden Lab. They needed money really fast. Maybe they lost a law suit or a patent troll or just upcomming payments for Sansar were not covered. Whatever it was, that is why they introduced the Buy Down Offer for SL regions. The way it was structured, they got a lot of money really fast and right now, while the actualy loss (lower tier) only happens in about 6 months. As far as I know 2000 sims had been bought down, which is 1.2 Million USD fast cash for LL. But it was not enough. They had to wait a few weeks to see how many residents took the offer. So they also dumbed a huge load of Lindens into the market, at higher as the usual exchange rate to encourage sales. First they tested the market by only going to a rate of 252 L$/USD and eventually up to 267 L$/USD. Considering the unusual volume, that made them at least 1 Million USD. That is the only explaination, because no sane person or business holds that high Linden Dollar assets. Daytrading could be involved, but then, my explaination would explain how it fits to the way the buy down offer is structured.
